The BAM 1022 real-time beta attenuation mass monitor from Met One Instruments powered by Acoem has been the instrument of choice of government agencies, the industrial sector, climate researchers, and emergency responders around the world since its release in 2015. While it has gained the reputation for being the most accurate and reliable real-time particulate (PM2.5) monitor on the market, Met One Instruments Powered by Acoem has continually invested in research and development to ensure that it its monitors will always meet the current and future needs of its customers and the monitoring community.
With continued strengthening of mandated government regulations in mind, Met One Instruments Powered by Acoem is proud to introduce the newest addition to its range of world-class particulate monitoring instruments – the BAM 1022 PLUS. As its name suggests, the 1022 PLUS provides all the capabilities and features of its original namesake with its proven technology but adds greater sensitivity and future-focused performance to provide users with exceptional data quality to meet ever increasing demands of protecting public health.
Governments worldwide have become more concerned with the cumulative effects of airborne particulate matter on the environment and human health, with many amending and reframing their regulations to lower thresholds for pollutants in the atmosphere. The timing of the release of the new BAM 1022 PLUS aligns perfectly with the recent U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announcement of more stringent regulations that tighten the baseline limits for PM2.5 – considered the most harmful and widespread of particulate matter – down from 12 micrograms per cubic meter to 9 micrograms per cubic meter. The BAM 1022 PLUS, with almost double the sensitivity of the original BAM 1022, can more accurately detect and quantify these designated lower levels of PM2.5 in the ambient air, allowing users to effectively meet the new measurement targets.
This significant capability enhancement and change in sensitivity has been achieved by incorporating a stronger Carbon-14 source material (100 µCi, remains exempt under US NRC regulations). The BAM 1022 PLUS also uses a high quality, inert filter tape material that is twice as long. The longer tape also facilitates increased intervals between necessary maintenance, making it more efficient for both long- and short-term monitoring projects.
“The engineering research and development that went into creating the BAM 1022 PLUS is indicative of the way the Acoem Group constantly strives to make a positive difference in the area of environmental monitoring. The BAM 1022 PLUS represents a major advancement in the way we should be monitoring particulate matter now and into the future,” commented Tim Morphy, Director of Product Management at Acoem Environment.
“Achieving lower limits of detection, with high accuracy, in real time, is a game changer for various monitoring applications including challenging environments such as smoke from wildfires and residential wood burning,” he added.
“The BAM 1022 PLUS is the latest addition to the ecosystem of Acoem-powered environmental solutions that gives customers unsurpassed service, technical expertise, training, and global support.”
