At a construction site, mining operation, or bulk handling facility, wind, temperature, relative humidity and particle count can have a critical impact on operations. When wind or particulate amounts exceed certain trigger points, it may be necessary to alter or suspend operations. This is required to maintain health and safety of the local population by limiting the dispersion of dust and particulates in the air. Met One Instruments, Inc. offers a variety of solutions by coupling either the General Purpose Weather Station or AIO 2 (All-In-One) Weather Sensor with our ES-642, ES-405, E-Sampler or E-BAM dust and particulate monitors. These systems provide real-time data to maintain operations while in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Cloud-based data handling provides immediate data access using any smart device, in addition to providing alerts via text message or e-mail.
Dust monitoring is one aspect of air quality that industrial hygienists use to determine the amount of dust particles present in the workplace, cities, or communities over a given period of time. PM pollution is a mixture of particles of various sizes such as soot, smoke, dirt, and dust. Many pollutant particles that make their way indoors are generated and released into the air from outdoor sources such as power plants, industrial processes, and automobiles. Living near a major roadway, for instance, can significantly increase PM exposure. Other particles are generated within the home from activities such as cooking or burning wood in fireplaces. Small particles also include mold and bacteria, and larger particles include pollen and dust mite casings. PM can have both short- and long-term health effects, with the smallest particles posing the greatest health risk. Effects of PM pollution exposure include increased respiratory symptoms such as coughing and difficulty breathing as well as aggravated asthma or other existing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. Met One Instruments, Inc. has developed the Aerocet 532, the Aerocet 831 and the BT-645 to be well-suited for dust monitoring applications indoors. For outdoor dust monitoring applications, the ES-405 is an ideal candidate.
